Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cottontail sat, no, Jimmy, Tristen, and Tolliver sat in the three chairs lining the front of Roman’s desk, cowering under the big man’s wrath. It was hard not to imagine the men as fluffy mischievous bunnies being reprimanded for their latest escapade. Garrett had a feeling this wouldn’t be the last time those three ended up on the stern end of a lecture from Roman.

Garrett leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed, listening to Roman explain in razor-edged words the repercussions if any of them again tried to get an injured man on top of a horse just to see if he could.

Santos was slouched back against the wall next to Garrett. He had his hands in his pockets, and one ankle was crossed over the other. The easy-going pose didn’t fool Garrett. The man was pissed. Santos hadn’t taken his dark, stormy gaze off of Tristen since grabbing the man from Twyla’s back and throwing him over his shoulder before dumping him on the chair he currently sat in.

“How can you smirk after what those two did to Tolliver?” Santos’ low, quiet question snagged Garrett’s attention.

“I was thinking that those three remind me of a children’s book about a trio of mischievous bunnies.” Garrett smiled as he looked over at Santos.

The big Brazilian smiled back. “I have to admit it is fitting.”

“Yep.” The two shared a look of understanding.

Garrett could see Roman was finally winding down, and Jimmy had begun to fidget. Santos straightened up from the wall and went to stand behind a slump-shouldered Tristen.

“Do you three understand my position on this little outing of yours?” Roman asked. Three heads immediately nodded. “All right then, don’t let this happen again.”

Santos turned Tristen’s chair around and squatted in front of the pretty man. “We need to talk, amorzinho.”

“I’m glad you still think I’m your love.” Tristen laid his hand on the side of Santos’ face.

“You will always be my amorzinho. But we still are going to talk.” Santos leaned forward, and the next moment Tristen was hoisted over the bigger man’s shoulder and they were heading out the door.

Glancing at Roman, Garrett saw Jimmy was clinging to his good friend with his head buried in his neck and his arms and legs wrapped around him. Roman’s long-legged strides carried them both out of the room.

That left Tolliver and Garrett alone in the room.

Garrett walked around Tolliver’s chair until he was standing in front of the smaller man and leaned back against the edge of Roman’s desk. Looking down, he studied the thin, compressed line of Tolliver’s usual pouty lips and his too-pale skin.

Tolliver raised his chin at a stubborn angle and his big, blue-eyed gaze took on a fierce look. “Kiss me,” Tolliver demanded.

“Tolliver…” Garrett began.

“No, you promised when my mouth was healed you’d kiss me whenever I wanted.” Tolliver’s bottom lip trembled. “Kiss me.”

They needed to talk about what had happened. This incident had brought home that Garrett wasn’t willing to let Tolliver disappear from his life, either by leaving willingly or not.
